Hummus

Jenavieve is always interested in what we are eating lately, and as long as it isn't something like cake, I like to include her and let her have a little taste. Usually it is a new taste and she makes a face and is done with it.

Last night I was sitting on the floor with her while she was playing and I was eating pita and hummus. When she noticed that I was eating, she wanted some, so I let her have a taste from my finger. She liked it, but didn't want it from my finger, she wanted the lid. In her defense, hummus looks like baby food, and we do give her baby food on a plastic tupperware lid. I held it out for her to have a little lick, and she grabbed it from me. And, like mother, like daughter, she loves her hummus!

6 month check up and the sickies

Vivi had her 6 month check up yesterday, which was good because the night before she started getting stuffy and feeling sick.

I made sure they measured her height correctly this time too, so she was 14.75 lbs (17th %) 26.5 inches (68th %).

She is still developmentally ahead, her doctor was impressed again at her strong neck and back muscles and that she copied her hand movements when she was gesturing. She asked if she was grabbing things yet and I said yes, then she asked if she had tried transferring objects from one hand to another, which she's been doing for weeks. So she held out her pen and Vivi reached out and grabbed it right away. The doctor said "What are you going to do with the pen? Are you going to transfer it?" and right after she said it, Vivi transferred it to her other hand. My little performer!

She is still sick today and I have a little cold too, which probably wasn't helped with my being up all night with her the night before when she was stuffy and annoyed. So last night we got some soup, tea, pudding pops, and the 40th anniversary Sesame Street dvd, and today we just hung out in our pajamas. I'm enjoying the Sesame Street dvd more than she is; since we've never let her sit and watch tv, she doesn't quite know what to do, but she does like the singing and dancing parts. They show a song and skit or 2 from each of the 40 seasons, so far we've only watched 1-5. So, no Elmo yet (her favorite) and Oscar is orange! I had a hard time taking his I love trash song seriously...

Relaxing on the couch

uh oh...

I think we may be in trouble...Vivi has decided not to worry about crawling and go straight to pulling herself up on the couch. Last night she stood there for almost 10 minutes and then tried moving down on the couch. She hasn't figured out her feet yet, but she walked her hands down a few steps before getting stuck. It looks very funny to see her standing without us holding her, she's just over 2 feet tall.

Food!

Vivi has really been enjoying eating food with us. So far she has had apples, squash, bananas, avocado, peas, green beans, brown rice, and little tastes of grapes and pomegranates. She loves pomegranates!

So far her favorites are squash and bananas, although she'd eat more pomegranate if we'd let her, she gets excited when she sees one on the counter. So far she has done really well trying new things. She may have had hives after the rice, but it could have just been dry skin. We haven't given her grains since just to be safe.

We have a mesh net that we use to give her chunks of frozen apple to chew on. Yesterday when I was eating grapes, I let her taste it and she got excited so we put a grape in her net. She enjoyed that too.

Her favorite thing is getting an apple slice from the same plate we are eating from!

We are final!

Today was our court date in Utah. Our lawyer called earlier to let us know that it's all official! He'll be mailing us our adoption decree, and then we'll order her birth certificate! Woo hoo!

I don't have a picture to post for today yet, but I'll get one when she wakes up :)

6 months!

Our little girl is half a year old already! We've been slowly packing away clothes that are too small (or that still fit but she's been wearing them for 3 months and its time to move on!) and when we weighed her a couple of weeks ago she had hit 14 pounds, so she may have tripled her birth weight by now...we go to the doctor on the 17th.

As sad as it is that she's not a little baby anymore, we're entering the really fun stages so that is exciting. She can sit on her own for pretty much any amount of time. She still hasn't rolled from back to front, but now that she knows she can sit up and play, she refuses to lay down. She's working on crawling, but it sometimes it seems like she might just skip that and move on to walking. She likes to stand on the floor with her hands on the couch and can do it unassisted for a little while.

She's also discovered the many sounds she can make, and our little ham enjoys making those noises loudly in stores. People always come over to tell her how cute she is, which I just know is her plan! Last night at Babies R Us, she was talking up a storm, and a woman came over to talk to her, and when she called her a 'chatty Cathy', Vivi giggled. She knows it.

So, here is her 6 month bear picture, and then for comparison, a picture of her on Mother's Day when she was 4 days old, and a picture of her next to that same outfit. You're not going to believe it!

More Halloween Pictures

I posted more pictures to the album of Vivi's first Halloween

Her first ever trick or treating was a success! We went to Aunt Karen's and Amy and Aunt Karen got to go with us on her first stops, then we went over to trick or treat with Kaylee. Kaylee's big plan was to be ladybugs and ride in her wagon. When we got there, Kaylee was already out trick or treating down the street, so we went out to find her. She saw us first and yelled "JENAVIEVE!!!" and ran toward us, hugged Vivi, then ran past us toward her house to get her wagon. When we came out, we met up with her friend Clara, who joined them in the wagon. Vivi didn't like the wagon ride, but Kaylee and Clara really enjoyed it. Eric is a good wagon puller. We went to a few houses, but then it was getting really cold and windy, so we wrapped Vivi in a blanket, and she ended up falling asleep mid trick or

We headed back to check out our candy and hang out for awhile, then went back over to Aunt Karen's to check in on their candy status and visit with Grandma Ruth, who is up from Florida this week.

All in all, a great Halloween! Click on the picture below to see the album.
